I have a somehow related problem. I installed recently a Kubuntu 6.10 (Edgy), and cannot use the DHCP client. I _can_ ping the router, but I cannot resolve any DNS names. Should I specify DNS servers? This has to be in the protocol, isn't it?

Well, I set also the router address as one DNS server. After that, it could resolve names, but each network operation took at least 12 seconds. So, a ping displayed a response line every 12 sec (the loopback time was 30 ms). Browsing the web worked also at this speed - so unusable.

So it's not working "out-of-the-box", even if it should.
Do you have any clue?

many thanks,
