Modem problems (dual boot XP and Ubuntu 6.06 LTS)

Hi, I'm one of many new Linux users.

Few days ago I installed Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. It's a dual boot configuration (I have Windows XP and Ubuntu).

Problem is that I can't activate modem for dial-up connection. Also my Lexmark printer is not responding. I looked in the system setings (GNOME) and my modem is recognized but I can't activate it. It is hardwear modem Intel 565EP.

Does any one have any idea what can be the problem?

    Thaks for any assistance!

Does the modem and/or the printer work under Windows?

Exactly what are you doing to 'activate modem for dial-up connection'?
