Make sure your modem is plugged in, turned on, and the lights indicate it's connected to the ISP.
Plug one end of a Cat5 Ethernet straight-through cable into the modem, and the other end into your computer's network interface port.
Set your system's eth0 network interface to use DHCP, and start (or restart) the eth0 network interface. How you set the interface depends on your distro, so check around the Web for ideas on how that's done, or if you tell us what distro you're using, someone here with the same distro can walk you through it.Stand up and be counted as a Linux user!
