    portmap and firewall IPtable...

    I have a basic question.

    Could anybody let me know.....

What is the exact role of portmap? Using portmap without firewall is vulnerable to the attack?

Is there any alternative to firewall? It look like that firewall is somewhat inconvenient in connecting to some webpages in Internet.

    Thank you for your help.
