Error 8 when trying to connect with ISA modem

I am running Fedora Core on a PII 300 MHZ. I found an ISA internal modem and Fedora could detect it during the probing, listing it as as general modem. WHen i tried to activate it with my account , i heard two faint clicks from the modem, and seconds later, it gave me an "error 8". Any help...and a list of modem errors that can happen with Fedora?

Which dialer are you using? Which modem? The error<#> is usually relevant to pppd (man pppd), error codes are at the bottom... it's not one of the best man pages though. Try tail -f /var/log/messages when attempting to connect and post the relevant output here.
