Noob - Linux internet setup/missing services/static ip/no dhcp/config file mods
I am working to try to get this VME chassis to work for our setup. We have a system that has two on-board network adapters. Upon startup, I get messages such as services not starting (sshd, xinetd, local) and it's trying to bring up eth0 w/ DHCP which I do not want to use. I need to set a static IP and make sure these services are starting correctly to allow LAN operability. I should also mention that when I do:
ifconfig eth0 inet xxx netmask xxx broadcast xxx
It will work until I reboot, then eth0 disappears w/ ifconfig check.
I am totally new to Linux (have been fighting w/ it for a week or so) and I am not even dangerous yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
J
