Can't boot after rebuilding kernel enabling network
I am new to Linux network and try to build an ethernet local network
from scratch. I have two PC's. I installed Netgear FA311 ethernet cards
on both machines and connected them with a switch. Now I rebuilt
the kernel (Debian 3.0 version 2.4.18 by using make menuconfig)
enabling some related networking features (including TCP/IP networking
support, Network Device support, and Ethernet (10 or 100 Mbits) etc).
I also edited /etc/hosts, /etc/networks, /etc/host.conf, /etc/resolve.conf
following the guidance from book (very simple just add localhost and an
ip address for private network, like 172.16.1.1, and hostname, domain
Now after I reboot the machine, it hangs at the very first message:
"boot Linux". The system works fine before this kernel rebuild.
Any helps are highly appreciated. Thanks.
