about traceroute

Dear All,

Am a new member to this forum I actually joined this group to know something about traceroute

i know that traceroute helps you in route my machine and the server. My problem is when i tracecert from my windows local machine tracecert Yahoo! it gives me proper hops

over a maximum of 30 hops:

2 7 ms 3 ms 5 ms 00.000.00.000.static.vsnl.net.in [00.000.00.000]

5 148 ms 149 ms 149 ms 00.000.00.000.static.vsnl.net.in [00.000.00.000]

6 284 ms 284 ms 285 ms if-0-1.core2.ldn-london.as6453.net [00.000.00.000]

but from my linux server it give me the result as

traceroute to Yahoo! (87.248.113.14), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
1 * * *
2 * * *

would like to knw why is this so.

would be very greatful if someone could just explain me this

this is a firewall issue, the server is behind a firewall that doesn't allow outgoing icmp packets

tnk u for the reply dear,

my servers are hosted at service providers which i access remotely thru putty.exe tool, you mean to say its their firewall access problem..
i need to get in touch them.

presumably your server is located behind a firewall, they have it configured to not allow ICMP outgoing packets (not uncommon, my work doesn't allow it)
