2 pcs networked together via a router/switch connected to a dsl cable modem. 1 pc Windows XP, 1 pc RH9.
Works fine except when someone logs on as user on the XP pc it stuffs the internet connection for about 10 seconds.
Not normally noticeable but when you're playing Enemy Territory........
Ideas? (XP has to stay :( )
My first guess, its proberly load on the XP machine as it loads the users profile... New machine?
The XP pc is newer, definitely, but I'm not internet connection sharing.
Perhaps me router's not the best in the world - cheap asian box :P
Ok... both PC's go to a hub? 10 base T? If you're linux box is on the hub, and is the only box in the hub, you're getting the full 10mb (or close)... when XP comes up, that effective rate is cut in half.... another pc, cut to thirds, etc.... IF I understand it correctly.... also... do you have XP auto update enabled? Norton auto update enabled... you're tentative slow down might be due to those activities firing off, if utilized.
my three drachmas
Ta for the suggestions all
Yup, 10baseT, but connection speed to isp is 150kbs so shouldn't notice much. Autoupdate off, no Norton.
Summat I'll have to live with I think.
