DNS FQDN Resolution Issue
I am relatively new to DNS, and just started a job where we have 2 internal DNS servers and 2 external DNS servers.
The 2 internal DNS servers are resolving correctly, and 1 of the 2 external DNS servers is resolving correctly.
All 4 DNS servers resolve correctly, if I enter the FQDN.
However, on the one external DNS server, it will only resolve if I use the FQDN.
Coming from the outside world, that is all this server will ever see, is FQDN requests.
But, coming from the internal LAN, it should be able to resolve using just the server name.
Again, one server resolves this way just fine.
Note that when I use nslookup from the command line, then specify the server to use, it resolves with the FQDN, but not with the simple server name.
Can anyone give me some suggestions as to why this might be happening?
I can probably track the issue down myself, if I new all of the possible pieces / entries to look for.
