I have a serious problem with dnsmasq and I thought you could give me some help.
The fact is that I want to modify some of the sources of dnsmasq, working with the tarball (dnsmasq-2.40.tar.gz). The problem comes when I make the installation.
The difference between installing dnsmasq by apt-get and manually is that no dnsmasq.conf in (/etc/dnsmasq.conf) and other important files are placed as they are by apt-get. I mean, by doing: make install with the tarball only two files are installed in the OS:
- The daemon, in /usr/local/sbin/dnsmasq
- The manual, in /usr/local/share/man/man8/dnsmasq.8
Therefore, I cannot configure /etc/dnsmasq.conf because it doesn’t exists anywhere in my Ubuntu, so I don’t know if dnsmasq is working properly after its intallation.
Apt-get method has no problems, it’s fine and it runs perfectly after being configured.
This is the traditional way of installation of dnsmasq. It works well.
