How to find the right chkconfig level for bind?

Folks,

After I installed bind9, based on some articles on the net, I ran chkconfig with level 235 for bind. However, this causes bind to run before some other processes (including NetworkManager) starts.

Can someone please tell me what is the proper way to identify the right level to run bind at?

When I do "chkconfig --list," I don't understand the numbers that are displayed.

Use man chkconfig to see and understand what it does.
Short version is this is used to tell your system at which run level you want the service started.


The order that things are started is defined in the rc.#.d with K=kill S=start. So anything with a 'K' will be killed when entering the run level and anything with 'S' will be started. The numbers right after the letter state what order it will be started in.
