Laptop Ethernet Card
I am trying to set up an old IBM laptop for a project- it has pretty current versions of both Mandrake and Debian installed on it already. While the OS's respctive info centers are able to recognize the onboard network card (3Com 3c556b), ifconfig detects its MAC address as FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF, and I cannot get an IP address. Another laptop with the same Debian installation has no probelm getting an IP from the same connection, so I assume the problem is with the ethernet card. Any ideas why this might be, or how to fix it?
I think FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF is the broadcast address for arp. I'm not too sure about this but it looks like it's a driver issue from here on.
