need help with router

ok, first things first this is a weird one. im trying to get my laptop (alienware sentia) to connect wirelessly to the internet. my config is my laptop connected by a 2200 b/g wireless card, which connects to a d-link w router whinch connects to a dlink adsl modem.

at school i can connect just fine (my dad sent me to some snobbish school were we all have laptops :roll: ), and i can connect directly through the LAN and it works. i think ive narrowed it down to the router, but under windows it works fine. Any ideas. ive dmz myself through both the router and the modem.

You've configured the wlan settings, such as essid? Have you tried dhclient or dhcpcd? Check this:

um, i have it configed correctly. i forgot to mention that i can ping any site, but cant use them. mozilla firefox can connect to the site, but cant open them. i have no problem connecting to the router or the modem

So what is the problem you're having exactly?

Can you ping anything on the network or is your card just not working at all?
Also keep in mind, is there any network keys you need to setup?

Sounds more like a firewall problem. Does the router have a hardware firewall? Also check the firewall settings in linux. Ok, I've just noticed that you mention that it works in windows, so it's probably not connected to the router. Do other programs work? I mean things like Gaim, or email clients, apt-get (or whatever package manager you use)...

BTW... I dig your diagram. That's too funny.

based on what I saw, it is probably the network key. Is the router using encryption? Your school is probably not. Windows will pick up your connection, and save the encryption key automatically, verify the correct encryption key with Linux.

Also, it seems as if he can ping outside IP addresses, but cannot access them through port 80. Port 80 may be blocked for incoming web traffic through either the router or linux.

You do not access web sites through port 80 on the client side. That is a web server port. He is accessing them through high-numbered ports.
