NetGear WG511 Wireless Card - SIOCSIFFLAGS: no such file
I'm *reasonably* new to Linux and I'm trying to go mobile. Problem is that I can't get my NetGear WG511 wireless pcmcia card to work.
OS: Fedora Core 3
Kernel: 2.6.9-1.681 (recently updated from 667)
Card: pcmcia NetGear WG511
Dell Latitude 500MHz Laptop
This is a pretty new installation (quite obviously since FC3 hasn't been out that long). I downloaded the SRPM and installed it (since FC3 doesn't install the source tree by default).
I followed the "NetGear WG511 Wireless Card on Yoper v2" guide I found on this site. I unpacked the prism tarball and made the modules then I make the "/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware" directory and downloaded the firmware.
I *thought* I'd followed the guide right but obviously not (d'oh!). The errors suggest that it isn't finding things but I'm sure the firmware was downloaded to the place the guide said. Whenever I try to bring the device up I get:
Bringing up interface eth1:
Determining IP information for eth1...SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
/var/log/messages gives :
request_firmware() failed for 'isl3890'
could not upload firmware ('isl3890')
unknown hardware address type 776
And of course the interface fails to come up. I'm really gutted at the moment since after researching into which wirless card to buy I bought this one based on the presence the instructions posted here and the favourable compatibility report at http://prism54.org.
Any help really is appreciated, google'ing has thus far proved fruitless.
