Setting up a wifi "repeater"
Ok, so i needed to extend the range of my wireless network. So I used an 802.11g USB stick and a 802.11G router with a pc in the middle. Right now, I have aWin XP Pro on the middle PC, and I would like to switch to some lightweight distribution of Linux. I have used FreeBSD before, some Ubuntu and Mandrake a few years back. So, I'm pretty fuzzy on specifics.
Anyways, here is how I have my hardware set up:
(Neighbors) (My house ->
DSL/WiFi Router ---> USB Stick -> PC -> WiFi Router -> Laptop(Vista)
Printer via USB
My neighbor and I split the cost of the DSL, before any questions are asked on that topic.
The only issue I am having with my XP Pro installation is I cant get the printer to work over the network from the laptop.
I am using the PC as a default gateway and network printing server/storage.
What I want to do is switch the PC over to linux. I only connect the monitor/keyboard/mouse to the PC for maintenance. So it doesn't need to look pretty. It just has to work. I haven't the foggiest idea on how to go about it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
