Slow host name resolving
I am running a 3com gigabit network card to a Vigor 2900 router on a cable connection. My pc is a very good spec pc (dont need the exact details).
The Vigor is set up with DHCP which seems to work ok. My one major problem is the speed of any internet hostname resolution, its all just very slow and can take over a minute to resolve. Once the address is resolved then i get my full 1mb connection speed.
Can anyone point me in a good direction to speed up the initial response please?
I am running SuSE 9.1 Pro fully patched and deconflicted.
Yeah 2 options
set up your own caching dns server
or put a dns root server ip in /etc/resolv.conf and config the system not to except the nameserver ip's via dhcp. 8)
here are a couple of root name servers
- nameserver 188.8.131.52
