[SOLVED] Nokia cs-15 Ubuntu 10.10 problem:cannot connect
I've been struggling with linux mobile communication for a long time. Imagine my surprise when a card turns up promising linux compatibility "out of the box", Jacded, aging linux hacker that I am, I grabbed at the opportunity.
Under Ubuntu 10.04 I inserted the CS15 and got no responese. The device did not advertise itself as a CD-ROM as expected. I tried downloading the necessary packages from the Nokia website and installing... that was a BIG mistake!!
There were a few error messages from the package installer about not finding the appropriate packages. None-the-less, I tried to configure kppp, anyway. (Note: I'm still new to this site so I cannot post links.) You can see the result in another post on this forum entitled:
The package install mentioned earlier fragged my system to the point where I couldn't start Synaptic or even the Update Manager systems. Both gave an error message complaining about missing packages.
Acer Aspire One 3G not connecting to Vodafone UK
With much ado I backed up the system (including all the things I needed for JBoss server, Java, Eclipse, etc...) and re-instsalled to Ubuntu 10.10.
My efforts were rewarded with a a non-recognition of the card. I cnnot give furthe information because every slash seems to be interpreted as a URL. Until I have made 15 posts or more, I cannot give further information (e.g output frm logs and such). I think this is a major bug with this forum
Please, can anybody help? I am at my wits end! I have tried different cards (AC850 & CS.15) Upgrading software (ubuntu 7.04,,,,,,, 10.10) changing PCs (Aspire <something or other>, HP nx6325, and an IBM T43) and nothing has worked to this point!! Ummm... everything is fine when I use windoze. But unless I'm developing .NET stuff, this is not the O/S of choice!
Pleeeeeeeze. Somebody out there must have an idea what I'm doing wrong.
