Hi everyone,
I'm not very good with networking, but I've noticed that when I assign my machine a static IP, its speed is noticably slower than when assigned an IP via DHCP. Any ideas as to what could be going on?
Thanks!

One idea is that the nameservers assigned by DHCP may be more responsive than the ones specified when using a static address. The telltale sign for this is your Web browser's status bar spending a lot of time saying "Resolving www.yadayada.com..." or "Looking up www.yadayada.com..." or something similar.
Do you have good entries in /etc/resolv.conf, like ones provided by your ISP or a known nearby DNS server?
DNS search order may also be a cause.
If that's the issue, you can also experiment with the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.
