SuSE modem detection
At the moment I'm only trying the SuSE live eval cd on this computer, I want to make sure everything (especially the internet) works before installing, especially after what happened when I installed it on the other computer :D
Anyway, I went into the YaST DSL config thing, and it looks like my modem has been picked up (what looks like my zoom pci modem and another network device are listed under "already configured"). So I entered my provider (plusnet's) details.
It finished all that, I ran kinternet dial up, but nothing.
kinternet log:
Code:
Status is: disconnected
trying to connect to smpppd
connect to smpppd
status is: disconnected
interface is eth0
status is: connecting
pppd[0]: plugin rp-pppoe.so loaded
pppd[0]: RP-PPPoE plugin version 3.3 compiled against pppd 2.4
pppd[0]: plugin passwordfd.so loaded
status is: disconnected
pppd[0] died: pppd options error (exit code 2)
Any help fixing this would be great!
Thanks
-
Sorry to be annoying.
Bump

exit code 2 means: An error was detected in processing the options
given, such as two mutually exclusive options being
used.
go to /etc/ppp/peers folder and cp ppp ppp1 and then mv ppp1 kppp
that may work!

Thanks, but I got up to here: /etc/ppp/peers, then the files you mentioned didnt exist.
Anyway, I just tried again, I went into the suse hardware config thing and pushed configure for the modem. It went through the little options (i left them all default, is there anything I need to change there? I've forgotten what all the settings were though. Something about ethernet, then some other choices, i take it this should be ethernet) thing, then said it was done.
I went and configures the internet provider, for which network card to use it only gives me one option, "eth0". Anyway, next to that is "configure network cards". If I click it my zoom modem is there as configured, but it doesnt appear in the dropdown box.
So I went ahead, tried connecting, only this time I get:
Code:
Status is: disconnected
trying to connect to smpppd
connect to smpppd
status is: disconnected
interface is eth0
status is: connecting
pppd[0]: plugin rp-pppoe.so loaded
pppd[0]: RP-PPPoE plugin version 3.3 compiled against pppd 2.4
pppd[0]: plugin passwordfd.so loaded
Timeout waiting for PADO packets
Check your setup and network cables then try again
pppd[0]: Unable to complete PPPoE discovery
Status: Disconnected
pppd[0] died: connection terminated at peers request (exit code0)
Again, if anybody could shed some light on this, eternal gratitude and another suse installation for me :D

why don't you try kppp program to connect to the internet?with this configuration i mentioned above i was able to connect to.ppp file in /etc/ppp/peers folder should exist although..
-
and exit status 0 means:Pppd has detached, or otherwise the connection was
successfully established and terminated at the
peer's request.
do you have a dsl connection?
-
I am using yast's network cards/dsl setup and kinternet to dial up... I havnt seen "kppp" anywhere.
I dont really understand what you want me to do with the /etc/ppp/peers folder, sorry.
I have a dsl connection, with plusnet. Do I have to do somethig to make it sync (when i connect to windows a little icon flashes while it sync's, and i'm not able to dial up until it has).
Thanks for your help :)

all the configurations i told you can be done if you use for dial kppp program.with this you can see if the modem responds and check all the terminal commands(init strings etc...).check it out if you can..
-
Where can I get it, or is it already in suse?
-
using kppp program (there is in the installation cd's).there you can find terminal commands (init strings) and you can query modem(see if it is recognised by suse)
