Do I need to partition my HD to run the Knoppix live cd? I have a newish Compaq Presario with 120gb. Feel free to offer any further advice. This will be my first time running linux.

No, just put the disk in your drive, set your BIOS as needed to boot from the cd-drive first, then reboot. Knoppix will run entirely from the CD. You'll need new partitions only if you install it to the hard drive.
Keep in mind that any livecd will run much slower from the cd-drive than if it's installed to the hard drive.
Have fun with Linux.

The most frequent keys are F2, F10 and DEL in that order. But just try booting first. PCs are usually set to boot from CD unless you have disabled it.
