Trying to install backtack
on the installation page they installing it to a usb disk but i want to installit on hda1

i made partition as in the text but from hda1 not /sda
so now i got
device boot start end blocks id system
/dev/hda1p1 * 1 7 56196 83 linux
/dev/hda1p2 8 70 506047+ 82 linux swap
/dev/hda1p3 71 19455 155710012+ 83 linux
when i press w in fdisk for wrigt then this error message come
Re-reading the partition table failed whith error 22: ingvalid argumen.
the kernel still uses the old table
the new table will be used at next reboot
syncing disks
then i reboot
when i checked i still had all 3 disks
so long evrything is good, but when to
BT ~ # mkfs.ext3 /dev/hda1 = working fine
and
BT ~ # mkfs.ext3 /dev/hda3 "ther is no hda3" then i try hda1p3 "do not exsist.
help wanted

Post the output of fdisk -l command here.
You can use Parted Magic LiveCd to create Partitions. It has Graphical Interface and its one of the best Partition Manager.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
