    http://www.offensive-security.com/do...hd-install.pdf

i made partition as in the text but from hda1 not /sda

    so now i got
device boot start end blocks id system
    /dev/hda1p1 * 1 7 56196 83 linux
    /dev/hda1p2 8 70 506047+ 82 linux swap
    /dev/hda1p3 71 19455 155710012+ 83 linux

when i press w in fdisk for wrigt then this error message come
Re-reading the partition table failed whith error 22: ingvalid argumen.
the kernel still uses the old table
the new table will be used at next reboot
    syncing disks

    then i reboot
when i checked i still had all 3 disks

so long evrything is good, but when to
    BT ~ # mkfs.ext3 /dev/hda1 = working fine
    and
    BT ~ # mkfs.ext3 /dev/hda3 "ther is no hda3" then i try hda1p3 "do not exsist.

    Hi and Welcome !

Post the output of fdisk -l command here.
You can use Parted Magic LiveCd to create Partitions. It has Graphical Interface and its one of the best Partition Manager.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
