hi all, new user, graphics problems
I wasn't sure where to post this. its a general linux question. well I've been toying with linux for a month or so and I have the hardest time getting many distros to run on my pc. I've tried ubuntu, kubuntu, foresight, and knoppix, all of which I tried to run the live cd just to test things out. well it boots the disc, and will begin to load, but somewhere along the lines the graphics looks all garbled and it freezes. sometimes it will get further than others, but they always freeze and have incomplete graphics. on the other hand the only 2 distros that have worked for me completely are suse, and sabayon. any ideas why so many distros do this? here is my system:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
evga nvidia geforce 7800 gt
abit an8 motherboard
2gb of mushkin pc3200
120 seagate sata2 drive (I do not install linux on this drive. I use an ide for that.)

Hey,
Well i guess there is some hardware problem might be your nvidia geforce card issue as your graphics fails. Or might be Sata Disk drivers problem. Right now you have any linux distro running? For i.e Suse. Post the output of below commands:-
code:
#cat /proc/devices
#dmesg
#lspciRegards,
who |grep -i blonde |
date; cd~; unzip; touch;
strip; finger; mount; gasp;
yes; uptime; umount;
sleep

currently I don't have any distro running. I'm in the process of finding a new one that will work, lol. if I can't find one, I'll go back to using sabayon most likely. but I'm kind of eager to find a different one that works, because I'm still new to linux and I just want to explore another distro.

are you using any of these graphic cards ?
if you want to try Ubuntu download Ubuntu alternate Installation cd which includes option of Safemode installation which would work for you.
after installation you can edit xorg.conf file if you face any problems with graphicslife is the greatest opportunity that the nature had given you
