    help with dialup modem

    hello users of linspire/freespire. i am posting for help about not being able to connect to the internet. i have tried two modems and when i use kppp and try to set up the modem is says cannot find modem.

    what can i do to fix this?

    rockwell riptide and us robotics/ 3com v9.0 56k fax modem

    it tells me in the instructions on setting up dialup using kppp to switch between ports until you find your modem but i tried the hole list and didnt find them

    1) The Rockwell Riptide look like a HFC Controllerless Modem - a Winmodem. Look at "HP Rockwell RipTide Combo 56k HCF Modem-Audio PCI (FCC)" on HP Rockwell RipTide Combo 56k HCF Modem-Audio PCI (FCC)

    Help with this seems to be available from "Linux drivers for Conexant modem chipsets Installer" at Linuxant - Linux drivers for Conexant chipsets - Linux drivers for Conexant modem chipsets Installer

    2) Can't get to the bottom of the other one yet.

    Linux WILL definitely work with an external serial modem...

    I have recently switched from windows xp and i am confused with how i am supposed to install the drivers. i currently do not have an internet connection on the computer i have freespire on but i would like to be able to dial up using that computer due to processor speeds. one is an 733 pIII coppermine and the one with windows is an amd 333k processor.


    please give me a step by step tutorial on how to get the internet. i dont like windows. especially the blue error screen
