    Looking for a version to...

I recently was given a couple notebooks and was told if I could fix them, I could keep them.

I managed to get one going, but am looking to replace the old version of Windows (Win98se are on both) with a version of Linux. Unfortunately, neither are online right now (working on that yet, win98 does not seem to support the wireless options).

What I am looking for is a version of Linux that can run on the laptops.

The one I have working right now has a 6GB HDD, 64MB ram, and running a P2. The only input right now is a 3.5 floppy drive, a single usb port, and a card slot (currently empty, but probably going to be used for a network card of some kind).

The other one has a 3.2GB HDD, 64MB ram, and an unknown processor (presumed to be a P2 as well). It, too, has a 3.5 floppy, but also has a cd drive and 2 card slots (both empty).

I would much rather prefer some form of Linux on these, but the only version I have right now is Suse 9.2 on cd/dvd, but neither have the stats to run that.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forums.

Here's a poll that was taken regarding favorite distro for older computer hardware:

    You might try Xandros.

I thought about Xandros, since that is the only Linux we carry at work now. Unfortunately, the requirements are higher than the notebooks have, and they are old enough that they are not really worth upgrading much at all (Okay, I bought a network card for the one I have working. Now if I can just get it to list it in the connection settings, I hate Win98...).

I am leaning towards Puppy Linux, but everything I read says it loads from CD. I assume there is a way to load it straight to the hdd? That would be a requirement, since this one does not have a cd-rom.
