Smile New to Linux, I have some cool ideas I need some help with please.

    Hi,

I have a home automation project I am looking at and feel that Linux is the way to go. There are several aspects to the project including switching outputs (possinbly network bassed), streaming music and a room to room intercom.
So I guess the first question is has anyone done anything like this that could offer words of wisdom?
The second question is does this even sound possible the main one I am strugalling to get anywere with is the intercom. I plan on having a touch screen press a button on it and I can then speak to that room (or rooms). I think most of the other things should be atchivable but yet to look into them.

I am going to build a test PC as the first phase.

Thanks for any help you can offer
