You need to install the win32 codecs. What Linux distribution are you using?

Thank for your reply Dark.child,
I have installed w32codec. Under root I used the command:
rpm -ivh w32codec.rpm
Running this command, I don't get any errors which means the package is installed but I still get the same error when I try to play the video.
Then I had a look in the article you suggested. I installed all the packages that the article suggests and now I have smart package manager in my system. To use this software, linux prompts me for the root password. I put the password, click ok and NOTHING happens.
Any more suggestions, please?
Thank you

Suses version of Xine is somehow crippled, so uninstall xine-lib and install libxine from Packman.

I tried downloading VLC following the instructions from VLC website:
First, I added a new repository (installation source) in YaST (YaST2 -> Software -> Installation Sources)
Type: HTTP / Servername: download.videolan.org /
Directory: /pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/10.1
After clicking OK, I get the following error:
Unable to create installation source from URL. VideoLAN - Free Software and Open Source video streaming solution for every OS! /pub/videolan/vlc/SuSe/10.1
Is that because of the firewall? Or is it something else?
How can I uninstall xine-lib?
Thank you guys!!!

Yes, but the thing is that I can't start smart package manager
In the link you provided you can uninstall xine-lib through smart package manager, which I can't run although its installed.
