    sharing files over a network

I'm interested in sharing files between my desktop computer running centos4 (rhel5) and my laptop (ubuntu 7.04). I started reading the RedHat docs for NFS but I thought I should ask what the alternatives are on linux based systems. Any help is appreciated.

I use samba but the main reason for that is because i also have windows pc's on my network and i want them to be able to gain access to the files as well. samba is easy to setup. i havent played with nfs yet.

I'm going to search for a samba "how to" on my distro. I didn't know that samba was more than a print server. Thanks.
