Internet Connection ?
I want to install a Linux dis alongside Windows XP Home.
I have ADSL using the modem provided by my telephone company.
I know this can't be used with Linux.
What do I need to connect?
Please explain in detail as I have read many things on the different forums and have even asked my ISP technician, but I must be too dense to understand.
Any help will be appreciated by me.
Thank you

I wouldn't be so sure about that! Have a look at "I know this can't be used with Linux.
Details for: Askey ADSL USB modem ALE130" on Details for: Askey ADSL USB modem ALE130
I'm based in the UK with Tiscali who provided a USB Thomson Speedtouch 330. It is a very difficult USB (modem) router under Linux but Ubuntu has caught up with it as a problem.
I bought an ethernet (modem) router from Ebay which has performed faultlessly.

Thank you arochester, for the reply.
I followed your link and I even downloaded the driver for my modem. This was supposed to allow the use of the modem with Ubuntu which I have now installed on my computer. But alas! No joy. I don't understand the procedures I guess. I tried to follow the instructions but....
Can you take the time to explain to me how your "ethernet (modem) router" is connected? One of the comments at the Ubuntu site was that a USB modem is pretty much at the bottom of the list when it comes to modems. I would buy a router if I knew what to do with it after I got it home.

Then your ethernet router is a modem? I thought they were two different pieces of hardware. Can you give me the brand name? Again, I appreciate your assistance here.

I have an SMC Barricade, connected in the same way as arochester, and that works fine in Linux.

I have a BT Voyager 205 ADSL Router. This is connected to an MSI RG60G Turbo 802.11b/g 4 Port Broadband Router. The BT receives the signal (it's not wireless), the MSI transmits it wirelessly.
