Beryl Convinced Me
I am so totally lost on how Linux even works, but I saw some youtube videos of this beryl thing and it's breathtaking.
1) Are there any big cons to dual booting with Windows Vista and Linux
2) What is the combo for the most super eye-candy, neato Linux distribution I can get? I've seen Beryl (the cube thing), but what's this other stuff like XGL?
I hope these questions make sense as I'm still very new to this.

Welcome to LF!
1) I use a dualboot system because there are certain applications I need that don't exist in linux or their equivalents are not good enough. Also if you are a gamer don't expect much from linux. Have a look here , it is a guide for new users.
2) Compiz fusion is the latest eye-candy windows environment, really impressive in my opinion

Hi and welcome,
1) Disk space. You need to donate 5-10GB. Also, even though the mainstream distro's are getting ever more easy to set up and operate, there are differences between the Microsoft OS and Linux that require getting used to.
2) There are several. Look here. Try out a couple. See what you like. Can't tell an OS by it's GUI

I hate to be that little red devil on the left shoulder, but also please remember that eye candy generally equals more resources and can really slow a lot of machines down, especially if you are running another CPU intensive app like a FPS. If you DO run apps or games that need a lot of resources, know how to switch to a low demand window manager like IceWM or BlackBox while running those applications and performance will be noticeably better on most average machines. Having said that, you are right. It's pretty heady stuff to see those cubes floating around.

I have an AMD 6000+, 8800GTS vcard, and 4 gigs of ram. I also don't plan to game on Linux since I play CS/HL (doesn't run on Linux).
With that said, I don't care much about resource hogging since I want to see what my machine is capable of.
