    Mandrake 10 locking on boot... error message

    Hi, I've messed around with Linux very little in the past, and recently made the decision to try and use it as my main OS.

    I resized my main Win XP partition to allow free space for the Mandrake install... using Partition Magic.

    The install seemed to have taken an unusually long time... but it finished.

    When trying to boot Linux, it halts on this message:
    ldm_validate_partition_table()isk Read Failed

    It will just hang there until I term it with Ctrl+Alt+Del

    I've reformatted the entire drive, started over, and re-installed (both OS's). To no avail. I've installed Win XP first, leaving appropriate space for the Linux install... and also installed Win XP on the entire drive... using Partition Magic to resize the partiton to make space for Linux.

    I've done this 3-4 times now, and run into the same problem each time.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.

    ok, i don't know how i did it... but i booted in failsafe mode. logged in, tried to start kde... got some error messages. logged out, term'd the session... and then low and behold it went right on booting.

    now it boots right up every time. i have no idea what went on, but its working. ha.
