    Best Distro For Audio Recording?

I have used Ubuntu since April '07, just installed the new vers. (7.10), & still no good with audio recording. (It will not capture stream audio, audacity edit, etc). Is there a distro that is preferred over others for audio (& video) recording work?
    Many thanks!

I heard about something called ubuntu studio a while back, you might find it pretty interesting. As for your mentioning audacity, you didn't mean that linux is missing it did you? If so, try running sudo apt-get install audacity in a terminal.

I have audacity & sev. other pgms. I believe the prob. is with the distro itself. I simply can't record any streaming audio/input sounds, etc. Music will play just fine, just no recording.

ubuntu studio is by far the best. It has a custom kernel specifically made for low latency so it's perfect for recording. It also uses Ardour for sound recording which is pretty much an open-source pro-tools.

I guess my problem lies deeper, maybe with my pc/hardware. I am using ubuntu studio now, & still no success with the recording.

Onboard sound for an ASUS A8V-VM SE mainboard. Manual says Realtek ALC660, listed as (OSS) in the vol. control. In my vol. control I can choose between this & HDA VIA VT82xx (ALSA) Neither choice works for sound capture.

Linuxcat, suggest you have a look at dynebolic. Start the jack server and use the Jack patch thingy to link outputs to inputs. Should work a treat.

Alternatively have a look at Studio 64, might work.

Wow, that is interesting - same main board, different results. I wonder if it is in settings somewhere? I've built pc's since 98, & I know my way around systems, but this one is throwing me.
