update...
i have opera 9.20 installed on my linux system and i have downloaded the rpm of opera 9.24 version... but i can't install it... everytime it is saying that the package is conflicting with opera 9.20... do i need to remove the older version to install the newer one? if so then how to uninstall from the terminal?

Execute rpm -e <opera_package> to remove it.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
