    Welcome to the forums!

I'm not sure this is the case with your drive, but when mine was unable to be detected by any system, it turned out the drive was a goner. Fortunately, my drive was still under warranty and the manufacturer replaced it free of charge.

Maybe someone else here will have some other ideas.

I don't think this is the problem, I did do what I did, removed all partitions. When I try Pdisk it is recognized as being there, just empty. In windows it will even show the volume lable I put in originally. Thanks for the reply, though. Maybe someone else has seen this.

Yeah, your deal sounds like something different. My drive wasn't detected at all.

You could look at TestDisk for a fix. It's supposed to be able to recover lost partitions. It comes with the Parted Magic LiveCD:

    Parted Magic

It's a great tool to keep handy for working with Linux and/or Windows partitions and runs totally off the LiveCD.

I think I need something more basic, something I can get into the basic format of the drive.
