    opening RPM self extracting file

    Hello LF
    i have downloaded a fedora 7 RPM self extracting file.-
    to my desktop and tried to install it with Archive-Manager
    and i get
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    Could not open "j2re-1_4_2_05-linux-i586.bin"
    Archive type not supported.
    --------------------------------------------------------------
    how do i get this installed can i change something
    to install it with YUM

    Archive manager isn't something that installs programs. It opens zipped archives (kinda like Winzip).

    You need to extract the contents of that folder (I think there's an extract option in the toolbar at the top), and then go to the place you extracted it to (using the command line), and then run the .bin file.
