install Winamp also on Fedora Core 7

I've been trying to install Winamp also on Fedora Core 7, (Build ID: xorg-x11-server 1.3.0.0-9.fc7 )
I get a msg that it requires dependancies from XFree86-libs
I've found this site RPM resource XFree86-libs and tried XFree86-libs-4.3.0-55.i386.rpm and XFree86-libs-4.2.0-8.i386.rpm and both give me errors.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. As you can tell, I'm new to this. I played with Linux briefly about 3 years ago and gave up after deciding it was not 'new user friendly'. Giving it another shot. So far not as bad. I got printer to function this time.

    Thanks in advance

Winamp requires some very old libraries which are no longer shipped by most modern Linux distros. Maybe you need to take a look at native audio players such as XMMS, BMP and Amarok.

I've looked at some of those, XMMS is particular. But here X Multimedia System they show several requirements and when I get to Alsa here Main Page - AlsaProject, then I'm completely lost again as to what I need and how to install.
I've installed plugin in Windoze software, often just a matter of placing in the correct directory, other times point the software at the plugin. And I've hunted down visual basic libraries, whichb just needed to be dropped in the system folder. But there's really not much direction I can find for Linux on how to proceed. If there's an easy to follow step by step guide somewhere, for a GUI based mp3 player, please show me the way.

    Thanks

If your machine has Internet access then I would suggest you to use Yum for package installation. It will take of all dependency issues.
Install Freshrpms repo and execute this
    Code:
    yum -y install xmms xmms-mp3
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Thanks. That worked and installed very smoothly. Only thing I can't get it to do is play from across the network. My files are all on a WinXP box (extensive CD collection ripped) and wouldn't even all fit on the HD I'm using for Linux. If I copy a file to this box it plays just fine. But I can't access the network from within xmms. I've tried creating a 'link' to my music folder, but xxms doesn't see it. And I tried dragging a file to xmms playlist. The file shows up, but won't play. If you have any suggestions it'd be appreciated, rather than having to drap music over to listen and then delete.
