"Skype"-problem
Hello everybody.
I have a Problem with „Skype“.
Situation 1:
When I try to do the "Skype test call", ore phone a member, I get the message: „Problem with sound device“.
Situation 2:
When I click on the homepage of a member, on his Skype-icon, I get the alert-message:
„Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (skype) isn't associated with any program.“
What can I do, so that Skype works?
All help will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Alexander

In options try changing the sound device from default to your actual and check in 'Advanced' that you have the connection correctly set - I think it should be automatic.
You should also check the Skype forum. They have some answers to common problems.Pete

Hi Peteh,
I tryed out, what you recommended, bud did not find exactly those settings.
Later, I stumbled into a "sign in window": I obviously wasn't signed in.
Further, it looks like I still have the old Windows XP settings for Skype.
I see it offers a Linux-version for downloading. I will try that and see what happens.
And will report later again.

I have problems with downloading "Skype for Linux".
It requires the default "Debian-view" to open it. Other options to open it, I don't seem able to get...
Skype used to be free (not cost anything to phone). Isn't it free anymore??? It says something now about "credit".

What distro do you have?
Also, Skype credit lets you use some services like answerphone and call landlines. Skype to Skype calls are free.

Thank you so much, for your informative and prompt reply.
I have the distro "SimplyMEPIS"/Linux, which did have a Skype button before, but I can't see it anymore.
Yes, I also found out, that Skype to Skype is free. It looks like the rates for calling form Skype to a telephone, are rather cheap.
Well, it looks like that I have to download Skype for Linux, but as I do not have the Debian viewer, I can't open, (or download?) the program.
I will have to look in this again, and play a bit around, and I might find a solution.
But it sure will help, to get a hint or two, from a few members, here. Thanks.
Alexander
