I am a beginner, and new to the Linux,Please help me
Hi everyone,
I am a beginner, and new to the Linux operating system.
I would like to request some help from you dear friends to assist me with getting familiar with the Linux commands and its environment, Linux Networking, and server's configuration and security in Linux.
Based on your experience, I would truly appreciate if you kindly provide me with any kind of information, books, websites, and etc. that is related to this matter, especially materials of LPIC if possible)
I am very aggressive and interested in knowing the right path for achieving my goal, so I would really thank you any assistance from you.

Welcome to the forums!

For lots of good info on getting started with Linux, have a look at the link in my signature.
For learning about the command line, go to:
LinuxCommand.org: Learn the Linux command line. Write shell scripts.
Hope you enjoy Linux!oz

Have you got a system up and running? If not, I started with buying Linux for Dummies. It comes with Fedora 7 on DVD, covers install, basic commands. Between that and assistance on here, I'm starting to get a handle on it, although I've still a long way to go. Today I managed to install an mp3 music player. Yesterday I got Flash working in my browser and a printer installed and running (network connection). Next I want to sort out playing video files including wmv format.

It appears that you are only repeating yourself and not really giving us any information so that anyone can help you.
There's a short guide to Linux security that can be found in the link in my signature. After you've read through all the material represented there, please let us know should you have any questions.
In the interim, what distribution(s) have you tried and are you running now, and what questions do you have about it/them?
What desktop environment are you wondering about, and which one are you using now? What problems are you having with it?
What specific Linux commands do you need help with?
What issues are you running into problems with regarding networking under Linux, and what are your questions about them?
Have you tried configuring a server under Linux? If so, what are your specific questions regarding the process?
Please start a new thread in the proper forum for each topic of discussion.oz

Hello webism,
you sound as if you are (too) afraid.
You will have to look at your situation differently, and think differently about it:
1.) This is learning by doing as well (or mostly).
2.) It is fine, to rely on the experience of fellow members, but most important, is
your own experience you make.
3.) You must (allow yourself to be able to) make mistakes. Mistakes are good, and by making them, you learn most.
4.) To have so much fear, is not good: It hinders you to do things, and to learn. It slows you down. You want to get into the stuff. To get at it. With that much fear, it is difficult.
Start playing around. Make updated backups of your data. Only click on the installation icon, if you are really ready for the installation.
Before definitly installing your prefered distro, try the distros out on bootable LifeCD, where your HDD stays untouched. Boot from the CD. Play around on the OS from the CD. You can then still work normally from your HDD, when not using your LifeCD for testing out.
So, take you time, slowly get the Linux-feeling, and the control over your new system. When you feel sure, you can do a installation.
So: no need to be anxious. Courage!

this is a good place to start
O'Reilly Store -- Linux/Unix
I'd recommend
running Linux 5th. Ed.
and Linux system Administration
