    how to know what is installed and where


    hii,
    i am new to linux.my problem is i dont know how to query about what is installed and where.
    currently i have a problem with display driver in my maschine.i installed intel latest driver by rpm -ivh driverfilename.rpm.
    it installed and stored in some location.
    i dont know on which location it installed and wheather its installed or not.
    if i want to know which driver is working for current setup how to do this???
    i am trying to know wheather that driver is installed and active or not and i am unable to do this.
    please help

    The "locate" command is usually a big help in finding system files. Just type
    Code:
    locate driverfilename
    or some part of driverfilename, and you should see all the places in your system directory where that name appears. Hope this works!

    but b4 u type locate u must type :

    updatedb

    to update the slocate database as to index each file u have
