Need help to intall my SANE backend scanner-driver
Need help to intall my SANE backend scanner-driver.
I do not know how to install my SANE backend scanner-driver to detect and support my HP scanner.
My scan program „Kooka“ enables scanning using SANE libraries, and therefore SANE, the package, must be installed to use „Kooka“.
Please help me, and tell me, what I have to do, and how I have to do it. Thank you.
- Where do I find the directory, that is mentioned, and how do I add the commands to the directory?
- I would probanly have to go from step number three...
- How, and where do I copy the patch into sane-backends-1.0.18 directory?
- How and where do I apply the patch?
- I copied and pasted the commands from number 4.) and 5.) into the "Run Command"/"Command"- line. I got no error message, so it might of been fine.
- The other commands, where not successfully.
These are the installation file instructions to install the backend:
"With this document you will find the patch that modifies the stable branch of
SANE backends 1.0.18 to add the backend that allows to use hp scanjet 3900
series scanners.
Steps to install the backend are the following ones:
1- Download the sources of the stable branch of the version 1.0.18 of SANE in:
SANE - Download
2- untar the downloaded file into the wished directory:
tar xfz sane-backends-1.0.18.tar.gz
3- Go to the generated directory:
cd sane-backends-1.0.18
4- Copy the patch into sane-backends-1.0.18 directory:
cp <path>/hp3900-sane1018_0.7.diff
5- Apply the patch:
patch -p1 <hp3900-sane1018_0.7.diff
6- If you want to compile only the backend for hp3900 series scanners type:
export BACKENDS="hp3900"
7- Compile and install SANE in traditional way typing:
./configure
make
make install
Backend is still in development status. So all scanner functions are not
implemented and due to it's a bit unstable, you may need to reset scanner
after using it.“
Please help me, and tell me, what I have to do, and how I have to do it. Thank you.

Ok: Lets simplyfy:
The scanner driver is the backend.
The scan program is the frontend.
To get your scanner to work on a Linux operation system you must have the following:
Your scanner must be plugged in your computer and into the bus bar.
You must have SANE installed.
You must have the backend and the frontend installed.
Then you must do the settings in you frontend.
And now, however, it should work.

Hello.
I did try to give in the commands given from the "Read Me"-file/Installation, but I still can't see that my scanner gets detected/recognized.
I need some new suggestions for giving in commands into the "Run Command"-Window.

Could I install YaST on my Mepis OS, or would only go on Suse?
Some people where able to install the scanner by using YaST.
