How to create and mount Windows partition on Linux ?

    Hi!

I am running a RedHat 8.0 box, with one hard disc with two partitions: root and swap. How can I create new MS Windows (say ntfs, fat, fat16, fat32, vfat) partition, mount it and make it avaliable to users other than root ?

    Thanks!

    windows disk

Firstly stick a new hd in for the partition or resize one of the others.

then use fdisk (see man fdisk) to create a partition assign a file system and format it.

Then create a folder /mnt/windows and alter you fstab file to include this drive.

I don't know the exact commands off the top of my head. But this question or variations have been asked loads of times. Either use man and info or search the forum.

Alternatively try the RH GUIs there are a few different variations for disk editing.

    Have fun

I hope these are FAT partitions. If they are NTFS, then you won't get write access for any user. However, use "umask=000" as an additional mount option to do that. I would, however, use "umask=002", add a group for users that should have write access to the partitions, and then also add "gid=xxx" as a mount option, where xxx should be the GID of the newly created group.
