    Photo Editing Linux

    What would be the best linux to use that would be perfect for imanage manipulating using RAW.

    I have a basic PC at the moment a Pentium 4 1.6ghz with 512 meg of ram and a basic 32m graphics card and looking to use it as a linux machine for general surfing and mostly for editing my pictures from my Nikon D70 any suggestions on whats the fastest.

    Also I am more or a Windows person have used linux on and off in the past so know the basics, so a OS that has the apps i need built in preferably.

    lol, so what you want to know is which of the mainstream Linuxes comes with the Gimp? Well that'll be just about all of 'em. With the hardware you have, you'll get few, if any, compatibility issues.

    Just make sure you get a newish distribution, 'cos you want to be sure about USB support for your memory card reader. Mine is USB, it's quite old but it works great.

    Other nice options:

    krita (available as a part of KOffice in most distributions)
    ubuntu studio (nice set of digital creation apps)

    Look at ubuntu studio it has multimedia software pre installed.
