Which distro should I choose?
My spec:
Laptop Asus G1s
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz
RAM 3GB
NVIDIA GeForce 8600m GT
Realtek RTL8168/8111
What do I need it for?
Nothing special. Internet, maybe video and programming (c++, java, scheme, php & mySQL, ada95 ) for sure. But I would like to run kde with compiz and compiz-fusion on it.
I also don't want to struggle with installing many drivers (especially had problems with GeForce and RTL) and have a quite easy access to both window and text mode.
I'm new to Linux so don't want something too difficult.
Thanks for all help in advance.

Well, thats the most asked question.
With new hardware, it should be one of the ditris with recent releases, or regular udates. Perhaps openSuSE or the newer *Ubuntus. But that depends: If you are ready to invest some time, and get to know your OS a bit it should be another distri. Somethng like Arch, Debian, perhaps Gentoo
