Ok I tried the command to list services and I think may be in over my head
It listed a group of BOOT services and DEFAULT services. I googled a few, I think if i remove acpid service it may speed me up; but then again I dont know. Here they are:
BOOT
acpid
bootmisc
checkfs
checkroot
clock
console font
hostname
hotplug
keymaps
localmount
modules
net.lo
rwlogin
serial
urandom
x-setup
DEFAULT
alsasound
avahi-daemon
dbus
dhcdbd
gpm
hald
local
netmount
networkmanager
splash
syslog-ng
vixie-cron
xdm
Keep in mind I do no networking and dont plan to in the future. I only download, surf, IM, game every now and then, listen to music/radio, watch movies. I don't run any servers or do remote assistance or connect multiple PCs. What services should I take off?
Techzilla, my wireless card is a Broadcom BCM 4306 802.11 b/g. And my computer model is HP ze4900 (upgraded ram). If that did not answer your question then I'm afraid I don't know what chipset I have, sorry.
Thanks for the replies!

To tell you the truth, you don't have a whole lot of unneeded services, you could remove acpi, it's mostly for sleep/hibernating, I don't use it myself because I get some errors when I do. I think you can remove rwlogin safely.
I am guessing that you have the correct Video drivers installed or beryl/compiz would not work correctly. Post the output of this command please
So you might consider removing unused/unneeded kernel modules.Code:cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep Driver
will show you which modules are active, but you need to Google those to make sure you don't need them.Code:lsmod
EDIT: to remove unneeded modules use the rmmod command
How slow is your machine? On a scale of one to ten? Do you have plenty of swap space and RAM? Issue the free command to check swap and free memory.Code:rmmod modulename
Code:free
