Hey im having the same problems right now. Im running Yellow Dog for PS3 and I want to run Quebass or similar recording and mixing software. Lots of reading and googling slow but steady. I think my processor ahs something to do with it not made like an intel or amd.
What distro did you look at for the muitimedia?

Linux doesn't support Windows based programs but you can use Wine to run those in Linux. Some packages might not work properly in Wine. Try both, Wine and Cedega for playing games.
Check Ubuntu Studio and Linux Mint for Multimedia support. You can install any/all packages in any distro though. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Well ! Thats a pretty good machine and any distro including Sabayon should work like a breeze on it. Install any Linux distro. You wont have any problem.
