Cannot Browse Blutooth Phone
Hi
Hope someone can help as I have been looking all over the forums to try and sort this??
I have a bluetooth dongle attached, no matter what i try I cannot connect to the phone to browse the files, if i right click on a file i can send it to the phone and if i send something to the computer from the phone it comes up on the desktop. So file transfer works BUT What i cannot do is browse the phone, when i try it comes up with
Couldn't display obex check if service is available - on the bottom of the screen a popup tells me the bluetooth is connected then disconnects??????
I have run apt-get to install obex-ftp as this problem is commona nd this usually fixes it but it still doesnt work for me so that isnt the answer??
I have tried to use a few different ways to browse the phone and none worked and now have blueman installed at the moment.
Would appreciate help as i need to get the contents off my phone.
Cheers

Can we get you to try and use obex-ftp to get something off your phone. If you get any errors then post them here and we might be able to help.
If that works then I'd expect the problem to be somewhere else. What program are you using to access your phone? Also, what kind of phone is it? One phone I have worked with refused to show anything to my computer unless the files were explicitly marked as 'available in bluetooth'.
Let us know how you get on,

Open a command prompt and run
changing the bit marked with <> to the correct address. This ought to list the contents of your phone. Then copy any errors and past them here.Code:obexftp -b <bt address of your phone> -l
Just in case; did you trim the address you supplied above? It's too short to be a proper bluetooth address.

Can you run the following:
Your phone will need to be set to visible in order to be picked up by hcitool. Can you post any messages from sdptool.Code:hcitool scan sdptool browse <bluetooth address from hcitool>

solution
I had the same problem. I am running Fedora 8 and using a Sony Ericsson w580i phone.
Right click the bluetooth icon in the upper right corner.
Select browse device.
Select your device and click 'connect'.
On your phone, allow request for your computer to connect.
On your phone, add your computer to your devices.
On your phone, enter your choice of passcode.
Double click on the bluetooth icon.
A passcode window will open.
Enter the passcode you chose previously.
Now you are connected.
Please note, this must be done quickly or the software will time out and you will get the same 'can't find obex error'.
