hardware not reconized(Ubuntu and Debian). which linux

i have had trouble installing Ubuntu, on my home desk top(acer, vista). some of my hardware is not recognized.
(but i installed it on my work desktop[hp, xp], with no problems, from the same cd.) so i figured it had to be some hardware. it didn't recognize my network adapter. when i go for the install, it load 15% with in seconds. then freezes at 15.

so i said let me try Debian. it didn't recognize hardware at the partition section.

could somebody let me know what Linux should be the easiest to install.(recognizing hardware wise) i would really like to run Linux at home.

is there a way to compare all my hard ward ware, and make sure it is compatible.

The easiest way to check compatibilty would be to boot from a
distros live CD. If that's not an option you could look for the
hardware compatibility list for the distro you are considering.

Ubuntu is usually very good at recognisng network adapters, but
it can be a bit flaky with Wireless cards.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

i ran Ubuntu from the live cd, prior to trying to install. besides network adapter(which is not wireless), everything ran fine. so i tried to install it so i don't have to boot it from cd every time.with no luck past 15% installation. im thinking its a hardware issue. because i ran the same live cd from my work desktop, and every thing ran and installed fine.

does not being able to install, while being able to run the os sound like a hardware issue?
