    Reinstalling Gnome

Hi! I'm a newbie, but I'm willing to learn fast I have installed Fedora 8 on a Virtual Machine, and everything was going well untill.. Desktop environment was Gnome, but as I got used to KDE while I had Ubuntu running, I decided to install it too. After a while I came up with a really silly idea to uninstall Gnome because "why should I have them both? KDE is quite sufficient, and I'll have more space.." - I thought. Silly, silly, silly me.. Now I get error messages almost constantly, and although KDE is running fine, I seem to have lost Package Manager (or at least, I don't know where to look for it). I also tried installing all sorts of gnome--.rpm-s from installation DVD, but all I get is a sort of "choose program to open with.." window. Then I tried to find out did I remove an rpm package too, but "# rpm --version" works fine, and it says that there is an rpm on. I've read few topics regarding uninstalling and/or reinstalling Gnome (and I've realised that I should've read them before I decided to uninstall Gnome) DO NOT UNINSTALL GNOME, IT IS ESSENTIAL), but none of them seem to work for me or have nothing to do with my situation.

Please, how can I bring Gnome back? I really wouldn't want to reinstall Fedora all over again.. Thanx!

    Welcome to the forums, archie_leach!

While Gnome and KDE reportedly work together, I'm not a big fan at all of mixing them on the same Linux installation because while they might work together, they don't always work properly and all kind of little issues might develop.

Some users would disagree, but I recommend a fresh Linux install using whichever desktop environment you really want to use. If you want to experiment with both DEs, two separate Linux installations is my recommendation.

Like I said above, others will disagree.

Let us know how it goes.
