    Adding openoffice and More

Downloaded Vector Linux 5.9 about 2 days ago and so far so good but I need to add a few packages such as openoffice, lyx and something to cover " speech to text" .

    I downloaded file: ///home/colin/Desktop/openoffice.org-2.3.1-i586-1kjz.tgz

and found something called v packager from start > system > vpackager

the directions seem simple but alas albeit I can see the file on my desktop when I browse to my desktop, it is not displayed.

Is this the correct way to install and why cant I cannot see my file?

Sincere thanks for your valuable time

You could try installing through the package manager, or try
extracting the archive to a directory and opening a terminal
    to the new directory.

Once there try ./install (or read the readme file to see what to run)

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

I used package manager , I could be wrong but I think the sequence was :
Start > System > Package Manage > select "Update"> Enter "openoffice" in search box> Select openoffice from list and right click to mark for install > Click "apply" > Enjoy Success
