Livedisks just won't work with me...

I purchased my new HP computer a few months ago, I've had several distros installed on my laptop without any problems and can run livedisks on my secondary computer.

However, this new machine will not take livedisks at all. The BIOS boot sequence is configured to boot from CD, which it does. However, half way through the process it stops and forces me to reboot.

I've ruled out problems with disks, I've tested Ubuntu, Suse LIVE, Sabayon Linux and Slax. All of them spitting out different errors, which I don't really understand with my little knowledge.

I'm now using SATA for the first time too, I was wondering if maybe there were issues when it came to that.

If anyone could shine some light on my problem, I'd be very grateful.

    Thanks,

    Welcome to the forums!

It sounds like it's got to be a hardware issue of some kind. I think you'll have to experiment with some of the kernel boot options that are available to you through the F-keys right before the installation CD begins to fully boot.

Maybe someone will reply that's been through this before and they can specify exactly which boot options you need to specify.

If these are LiveCd's, you can stop worrying about SATA support, LiveCD's do not touch the hard drives unless you install them.
Stick one of those Cd's in and reboot, what's the exact problem you are having? Screen going blank? An error msg perhaps? What's the last thing you see before it fails?

The machine boots up the disk, I can see the scrolling start-up text... right up until a certain point, unfortunately I can't get any precise error messages at the moment due to being away from the machine itself, I will gather these tomorrow if needed.

However, after checking USB devices (or enabling, I can't recall exactly) and this process is carried out correctly, I think it begins the next process, which I have a feeling is to do with the HDD, the text stops and I am asked to reboot.

I think the exact words on Slax were "This shouldn't happen!" and "try moving files from x to y".

Thanks for the replies, sorry I couldn't be of anymore help at the moment.
